Fucoidan, a polysaccharide with unique characteristics, has attracted the attention of researchers because of its health benefits, especially its antitumor effects. Fucoidan is similar to other polysaccharides such as mucopolysaccharide contained in aloe leaves or beta-glucan in the agaricus blazei mushroom. It is a combination of simple saccharides and is known to be able to preserve water, and is therefore capable of creating a mucous or gel condition when combined with water and other substances. Such substances as galactose, mannose, xylose, uronic acid, sulfate group and others stem out from the fucose base in fucoidan molecules.
